While Nikki's Café On William has only been running for a little over two years, husband and wife duo Pino and Nikki Calabro showcased their experience in baking at this year's show, securing five awards for their commercial baking skills.
"Being Italian I like cooking, growing up in an Italian household you're surrounded by food and different flavours," Mr Calabro said.
"We applied last year but the show was cancelled, so this is our second year but first time."
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
Mr Calabro secured first prize for his collection of biscuits, first prize for his meat pies and first prize for his collection of slices, along with the awards for most successful baking exhibitor and champion commercial baking exhibit.
"I didn't expect to get anything really and a customer texted Nikki last week and said 'you guys won'," Mr Calabro said.
"She said 'we won, we won' and I said 'what did we win?'.
"I thought we won lotto, hallelujah."
Nikki's Café is not only known for its bakery food, but also its Italian menu on Saturday nights and guest appearances by local singers.
Next Saturday, the couple will host a karaoke night accompanied by their Italian food with the option to bring your own drinks.
"We are having Karaoke on the 15th starting at 6pm," Mr Calabro said.
With 29 years of mechanical engineering experience behind him, Mr Calabro has big plans for their café if they are ever offered the opportunity to buy the building themselves.
"We've had complaints from disabled people who can't come into the store because of the big step, so what we're doing is changing the front end of the store and having two double doors where it's level with the path outside," he said.
"Ideally if I owned the building, I would have a lift going up to the roof and have outdoor dining on the roof, imagine summer time sitting up on the roof, the view you would have would be amazing."
Happy with his achievements this year, Mr Calabro looks forward to going back to the show next year and defending his titles.
