Mr Spurway and his wife Marlene have retired from the business, which they built from the ground up 20 years ago, and have wished the new owners well as they aim to carry it to new heights.

"I have comfort in Chris and the family of keeping the high-quality standard of the hotel, with a rating of 9.2 out of 10, the only motel in Bathurst that is 4.5 stars," Mr Spurway said. "I'm assured that they will keep the standard and even better it."

Running top-notch accommodation comes naturally to siblings Chris and Genna Inzitari, who grew up watching their parents, Michael and Sandra, run the Zig Zag Motel in Lithgow.

Their family also runs an accommodation business in Albury.

Mr Inzitari said his family always admired the Bathurst motel and "jumped" at the chance to purchase it when it came on the market last year.

"Being established motel operators in Lithgow for such a long time - we've been there for over 20 years - we've always been looking for our next long-term opportunity and Bathurst is a town we've always liked," he said.

"Genna and I have a history here with university study and work in the area, and it's just nice and close to Lithgow. We know that we can do a really good job here and this opportunity came up and we just jumped on it.

"... We remember driving past [the motel] and seeing it get built in 2001 and from the moment it opened we liked it and particularly mum and dad used to comment on it and admire it. It's a property we have always liked."

They will simplify the name of the motel to the Heritage Inn, and plan to do some refurbishments to put the family's touch on the place and add to the experience for guests.

The motel offers 48 rooms and includes a number of amenities, including a barbecue area, breakfast room and on-site gym.

As it doesn't have a restaurant attached, the Inzitaris will continue to foster relationships between the motel and other hospitality businesses in town for the benefit of guests.

The family plans to be very hands-on, particularly over the first few months of ownership, and intends to grow staff numbers over time.

They look forward to taking the motel from strength to strength.
