After showing promise when running fifth and then fourth in her first two starts after arriving at Simmons' stables from Victoria, Shes Pocketrocket broke through for a win at Parkes before running home well for third at Bathurst last time out.

Bathurst-based Amy Rees has been in the gig for three of those four starts and has the drive again on Sunday at Dubbo Paceway when the four-year-old mare contests the first of two heats in the Club Dubbo Show Series.

"We've been really happy each time," Rees said.

"Even when Marty drove her (finishing fourth) at Dubbo. He was happy too even though it didn't look like much on paper. She's looking like a nice little horse."

A big positive for Simmons and Rees is the adaptability Shesa Pocketrocket has hinted at early on.

She scored just one win in 18 starts while racing in Victoria but has impressed with her gate speed since racing for Simmons while she also possesses a handy turn of foot.

That late speed might be necessary on Sunday when she starts in the back row in the 2120m heat," Rees added.

"It depends how the race is run but hopefully the run comes for her at the end and she can run home over the top of them."

That was how things panned out at Parkes in Shesa Pocketrocket's win.

After getting away well from gate one Rees was forced to settle but had the pace late on to rattle home and secure victory by a neck.

"We were both pretty confident and she was the only reason I went to Parkes that night," Rees said.

"I think she's pretty versatile. She has the gate speed and can utilise that. The intent at Parkes was to hold and in the trials Marty led."

Among the other dangers in the heat are the Emma Turnbull-trained Thursty Sportsman, who won last start at Bathurst, and Nathan Turnbull's Surf Ace while Simmons' fellow Dubbo trainers Greg Lew and Brad Peisley will be represented by Jogalong Blue and Sporty respectively.

The $9059 final of the series will be run during the club's Friday night meeting on May 14.

Shesa Pocketrocket is one of four drives Rees will have on Sunday.

One of the others is Desmond, who Rees trains herself and she will make his long-awaited debut in the Sky Racing Active Maiden Pace (1720m).

"We broke him in and he was a little bit of a pest and not perfect," Rees admitted.

"There was nothing to warrant me liking him but I did.

"It's been a long process but he's finally at the races and his trials have been better than we expected."

Racing starts 12.16pm.
