A UK national has been rescued after his 50-foot Beneteau yacht started taking on water off the New South Wales coast.

The boat's sole occupant reported being in distress about midnight on Friday, and was rescued 73 nautical miles off the coast of Newcastle about 10am.
The 40-year-old UK man was towed to Newcastle Harbour, early on Saturday morning. The boat remains moored at the harbour.
The man has been taken to Sydney where he will complete 14 days of hotel quarantine.
