The Drake and Duck Cafe opened within The George Hotel site last week to provide members of the Bathurst community with another avenue to start the morning right, with fresh coffee [using local Fish River Roasters blends] and a diverse breakfast menu.

Owner Matt Harrowsmith said the cafe is a natural progression from the breakfast offerings The George Hotel trialled prior to COVID-19.

"We did extensive renovations to the venue's function room during the lockdown period last year, which has resulted in a nice, cosy little morning space for people to enjoy a coffee and overlook the picturesque Machattie Park," Mr Harrowsmith said.

"The breakfast menu is of the same quality as the lunch and dinner options at The George, which I think customers will appreciate."

Mr Harrowsmith said the addition of the cafe will diversify hospitality options available at The George Hotel site.

"Gastropubs are all about providing a comfortable atmosphere with quality food and beverage offerings, and our venue now has these capabilities for breakfast, lunch and dinner," he said.

"The cafe will be great for our accommodation clients, who will now be able to grab breakfast downstairs rather than venture into town; it's now a one-stop shop."

Mr Harrowsmith said the use of Fish River Roasters blends highlights the venue's willingness to support local producers.

"We've worked hard with the Fish River team to promote their produce to customers, as they've really helped diversify the local coffee industry," he said.

"Some of our baristas are recognisable from their previous jobs around town, and we're incredibly happy to have them on board."

Mr Harrowsmith said the cafe is open to walk-ins only [no bookings], and will continue to use the space as a function room outside the cafe's opening hours.

"The space only accommodates around 40 people under current regulations, so we're taking it down the lines of a small Sydney cafe model focusing more on takeaway operations," he said.

"We've got a great little team on hand, and are confident with our food and beverage offerings, so we welcome anyone to stop in and say hello."

The Drake and Duck Cafe is open from 6am to noon, seven days a week.
