The pedestrian fencing erected on Durham Street between William and George streets was designed to encourage pedestrians to cross at the lights rather than unsafe locations, but drivers turning into the Coles car park say it blocks their view.
Following the installation of the barrier, Councillor Warren Aubin, who is part of the council's traffic committee, said he had received a lot of feedback from drivers who said it was now hard to see oncoming traffic.
MAKING NEWS:
Concerns were raised with the RMS, with Director West, Alistair Lunn, saying Transport for NSW's number one priority is safety.
He said the barrier was installed in April following a large number of reported incidents involving pedestrians crossing the road unsafely.
One month later he said to achieve the best balance of safety for motorists and pedestrians, Transport for NSW is carrying out investigations on the impacts to sight lines and visibility through the area.
Transport for NSW has since scheduled work to adjust the fencing along the centre median, however the RMS has yet to confirm what the permanent solution for the street will be.
