BRAGS plays a key role in supporting local art through fundraising initiatives to further facilitate arts practice in the Bathurst region.

Publicity officer Max Wilson said BRAGS exists to remind locals of Bathurst Regional Art Gallery's [BRAG] community-centric focus.

"We're always open to new members, and a BRAGS membership offers discounts on special BRAG events involving featured exhibitors and the venue's gift shop," Mr Wilson said.

"Our fundraising initiatives support the purchase of works for the gallery's permanent collection and promote art within the Bathurst community."

BRAGS vice-president Marie Sullivan said it's important for the community to understand the gallery is for everyone.

"We'd particularly like to see young people and university students participate more in BRAG activities, because they're the future," Ms Sullivan said.

"BRAGS is an outward-looking organisation, and we're determined to dispel any notions of elitism that are commonly associated with art galleries."

BRAG director Sarah Gurich said a prominent example of BRAGS' community role is the 'The Conversation' sculpture near the Macquarie-Wambuul River.

"This sculpture was commissioned by BRAGS in 1988, and has become a much-loved landmark for the community," Ms Gurich said.
