Teen Matters will be a two-week course aimed at supporting the young woman and her carer (mother, grandmother, carer, or another older female) to learn together and to navigate the changes and pressures that come with the teen years.
By learning together there will be the opportunity to strengthen the relationship as well as build an understanding and supportive environment in which to grow into adulthood.
"It can be validating being with others going through similar experiences," facilitator Antonia Ravesi said.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
"This workshop combines practical strategies with realistic information on how to approach some of the key challenges, carers of young women and young women themselves may experience during the transition from childhood to adolescence."
Topics over the two weeks will include self-respect and the impact of social conditioning on our self-esteem and wellbeing, healthy relationships including sex and consent, body esteem and online safety considerations. A light supper will also be provided each night.
Attendance will be $60 per pair with concessions available for people in financial disadvantage.
People interested in taking part can contact the centre on 6331 4133. Dates will be confirmed once enough pairs sign up.
