The Sit and Shade Street Gardens have been placed on George Street and at the Bathurst Rail Museum, with local contractors including CidWeld Engineering, Skillset Landworks Central Cranes and WorkControl Traffic Management used to construct and install the garden structures.
The gardens have a 250 litre wicking reservoir that plants can access for self-watering and native and drought resilient species were selected to grow over the structure for shade and soften the seating area.

Composite decking used for the seat and walls is made from recycled plastics and requires minimal maintenance.
The structure was designed to be durable and moveable to other locations during public events such as the Bathurst Winter Festival.
The garden provides an innovative solution to increase urban canopy cover, seating and street greening without building permanent infrastructure.
This project was funded by the Federal Government Drought Communities Program.
