Chester Nealie: Etched in Fire
Nealie, a Gulgong-based artist, has produced a series of wood-fired ceramic creations from across his six-decade career as an artist in his exhibition: Etched in Fire.
Nealie's work evokes his affinity for the art of pottery, and includes a diverse collection of his own ceramic works as well as works by his peers and students.
"The exhibition reflects a fair slice of my career as an artists, and showcases the many experiences and people I've met throughout my travels overseas," Nealie said.
Euan Macleod and Andrew Merry: Stirring the ash
Macleod and Merry have combined their painting and photography expertise respectively to produce an exhibition inspired by the harsh, liminal landscape of Napoleon Reef, near Bathurst.
The pair have woven each other into their respective creative outlets to highlight the complex, multifaceted nature of fire.
"Andrew took some long-exposure photos of me painting fire while I would return the favour on the basis of his pictures; we essentially challenged each other to deepen the narrative," Macleod said.
The exhibition is complemented by a poetry response by New Zealand based writer Gregory O'Brien.
Angela Malone: Winter Paintings
Malone, who hails from Orange, has modelled her exhibition to capture rich, winter landscapes merging external realities with internal memories and emotions.
"As my life has become fuller, painting has been a place of rest and tranquility," Malone said.
"The paintings are inspired by scenes around Summer Hill Creek, and I hope BRAG visitors experience those same feelings of peace and quiet that I did while painting them."
Malone studied painting and drawing under the late David Brian Wilson of Bathurst, and is also a talented writer and poet.
The exhibitions will be on display at BRAG from June 5 until July 29. For more information, visit www.bathurstart.com.au.
