In February, Bathurst Regional Council commenced a three-month trial with Textile Recyclers Australia, with bins placed at the waste management centre.
The bins were regularly collected, and more frequently than first anticipated, due to the high volume of items being dropped off.
Waste management coordinator Raymond Trevorah said the trial has now been extended.
"Bathurst has signed an extensions agreement with Textile Recyclers Australia who is providing the textile recycling service through till November," he said.
"Towards the end of the current extension of the textile recycling program BRC will review and determine how the textile waste is managed into the future."
Although the bins have been popular, there are no plans to place additional bins around Bathurst.
The collection point will remain the waste management centre in College Road.
Residents can drop off of textiles between 7.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday and from 8.30am to 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
"Recycling of textiles from households is free of charge, but costs may be incurred if loads are mixed with other household wastes," Mr Trevorah said.
"Residents are advised to ensure loads of textiles they wish to recycle are free of underwear, swimmers and socks."
Mayor Bobby Bourke said he was glad to see the trial had been extended and hopes it becomes permanent to address the issue of clothes ending up in landfill.
He said residents have embraced the bins.
"They have. I go up there regularly and the bins are usually full," he said.
"It's good that they (clothing) are being reused instead of going into landfill."
Textile Recyclers Australia repurposes clothing by either sending quality wearable items to developing countries or taking items that are damaged for recycling into new clothing or for use in other industries.
