Out on his usual afternoon jog along Hereford Street, he suffered a massive heart attack and if not for the efforts of those who came to his aid, would have certainly died by the side of the road.

Having now undergone heart bypass surgery, Geoff remains in Strathfield Private Hospital, and is, thankfully, expected to make a full recovery.

His family said they would love nothing more to thank those who rushed to his side and kept him alive, until paramedics arrived.

His wife Yvonne, said the family have managed to make contact with some of the group who were there on the day, but know there is a man named John who also did CPR who they have as yet been unable to find.

His daughter Lauren, said the family would love nothing more then to say thank you to all involved, so they know what an incredible thing they have done for her family.

She said a woman named Claire, was walking just behind her dad when he collapsed, she immediately went to his aid, calling triple 000. A few cars pulled over to help, with one man starting CPR, and another man named John assisting.

"We know another woman called Rhiannon also helped, Claire wasn't from Bathurst, and did as good as she could giving directions to the ambulance, so Rhiannon got in her car and flagged down the paramedics.

"Another woman, Belinda also helped," she said.

Lauren said they all saved her Dad's life.

"And we will be forever grateful for them, and forever in their debt.

"We are also incredibly thankful for the Bathurst ambulance crew who attended to my Dad as well as the staff at the Bathurst and Orange Hospitals.

"They were all amazing," she said, adding she hoped to be able to see them and say thank you next week when her Dad returns to Bathurst.

Lauren also encouraged everyone to ensure they know CPR, and keep their skills up to date.

"It saved my Dad's life," she said.

As for Geoff, who has been a runner all his life, and felt fine before he went for his run said he's feeling a bit sore, but other wise pretty good.

To those who worked on him that afternoon, he said he will always be eternally grateful.

"I feel quite humbled, and so grateful I live in the community and the town I do," he said.

While he's still in hospital in Sydney, Geoff said he hopes to return to Bathurst in the next few days, once home, he will begin his rehabilitation.
