Orange has traditionally been the powerhouse school in the cup's recent history when it comes to netball and that was once again the case at the Charles Sturt University gym on Friday where they came away 64-34 winners.

The netball wasn't originally penned in as the opening event of the cup but the postponement of Thursday's sports gave Orange a great opportunity to make a strong start, and they seized the chance.

Winning captain Poppy Keeghan said the Orange team pride themselves on the pace of their game.

"It was a great game. We were down a couple of players but the team that we had today did such a good job. It was a nice win for us," she said.

"I think we always try our hardest to move the ball down the court as quickly as we can, because we all work together so well.

"It's an awesome team and we're all really close so it's always great to play together."

Orange's quick ball movement was difficult for the Bathurst girls to contain and two consistent opening quarters took the visitors out to a 32-17 lead at half-time.

But it was the third quarter where Orange really started to do the damage.

Their long passes into space allowed them to put on a run of quick points and they ended the period outscoring Bathurst 19-6.

Another area where Orange stood out was their shooting accuracy and rebounding on their rare missed attempts - where they would often earn a second chance at a basket.

However, Bathurst played their best quarter at the game's end to limit the damage on the scoreboard.

The hosts may have still gone down in the quarter 13-11 but they found several intercepts and managed to work the ball into the circle more smoothly than they had done before.

Bathurst also began to find more rebounds of their own to keep pace with Orange in that regard.

With such a handy lead Orange were more than happy to start taking deep attempts and their long range shooting was superb across the final quarter.

The scoring splits gave Orange an early 65-35 lead in the cup.
