And for her debut gig in Bathurst this Saturday, Buckingham will arrive to promote her brand new single, 'Something More', which addresses the highly relevant issue of gender inequality among women.
"I tried writing 'Something More' about six or seven times; I knew what I wanted to say and how I wanted the song to feel, but could never quite get there," Buckingham said.
"So I kept pushing until I was able to feel the power of the words...as a songwriter, I definitely place more emphasis on getting the lyrics right; the music comes naturally."
"It's important for me to ensure every song says exactly what I want to say, and in the case of 'Something More', I wanted to bring gender equality to the fore and demand 'something more' for women."
'Something More', which will delight fans of Stevie Nicks and Alanis Morissette, is the first release from her upcoming album, 'Dear John'.
Buckingham has adopted a do-it-yourself [DIY] approach to her career thus far, engaging fans through house concerts, two album crowdfunding campaigns and online creative platform Patreon.
She said the approach has taught her the value of putting creativity first.
"The great thing about being DIY and independent is there's no one breathing down your neck to produce new material, you have full control over your creativity," she said.
"It can be tough at times to work around other pursuits but when you prioritise art and creativity, the rest becomes so much more enjoyable."
Buckingham will perform on Saturday, June 19 at The Victoria Bathurst, and will be supported by local favourites Smith & Jones.
Doors open at 6pm. Tickets cost $25 and are purchasable using NSW Discover vouchers.
