HAVING spent my entire life in Bathurst and always having an ear and an eye for the day-to-day goings-on, I can recall a couple of occasions when the subject of nose-in parking in our great city centre has been raised, discussed and dismissed.

I have always been a supporter of this result, but not any more.
The time, I believe, has come for a change to nose-in parking.
There are several reasons. One is the lack of ability displayed by so many drivers when they are reverse parking. This will be nullified is they are nosing in.
With the entire street to reverse out, that should make it simpler.
Another point here is that when reversing out, drivers will have the responsibility of negotiating a safe time to do so.
This will negate the very ignorant method displayed by so many who, after selecting a parking space that suits them, swing their vehicle across the roadway and block the traffic for as long as it takes them (depending on ability) to park.
IN OTHER NEWS AROUND BATHURST:
The centre of our city is a very special place and our council has been very determined, over a long period of time, that all major shopping will be done in the central city.
We are paying a price for those plans now, I believe, with the number of cars focused on the central city and people's lack of ability in reverse parking.
I'm hopeful of starting a new conversation.
