In addition to regular contributor Rob Shannon and local electronic music producer Tsanga Man, ESEM has also enlisted the skills of Mitchell Conservatorium teachers Todd Brownlow and Dave Webb to enhance the mood of the Illumination Light Walk.
Mr Brownlow contributed music to Birrunga Wiradyuri's Ngurambang Ngayirr Wahluu installation in George Street and Machattie Lane's iMovement display, featuring members of Bathurst PCYC's parkour group.
"The piece for Birrunga's work combines as a minute-and-a-half drum loop with synthesised percussion and a male choir, and I feel honoured that he chose my music for his piece, given its cultural sensitivities and the fact it wasn't originally written for his work," he said.
"On the other hand, iMovement involved writing music to a creative brief, which is something I've never done before as a musician, but it was a great experience."
Mr Webb was also asked to produce an up-beat, danceable track for the installations, which allowed him to express his deeper affinity for music beyond the rock sound he's well known for.
"I've produced this disco-inspired track with younger audiences in mind, and I've left room for the music to transform with the visuals," he said.
"The brief I received was 'house music, tinged with acid', so that certainly presented me with an enjoyable challenge."
In addition to his sprawing 10-and-a-half minute urban piece to accompany Sven's work at Keystone 1889, Mr Shannon also provided music for the Tremain's Mill animations produced by MacKillop College students.
"I wrote the piece in real-time along with the creations; it's a subtle, atmospheric keyboard creation linking the animations together as a story," he said.
"It's always a fun challenge to give the lights a voice."
The Winter Festival concludes on Sunday.
