A development application was lodged this week for a takeaway food retailer at shop 5, located between Café West and Steve's Quality Meats.
The plans don't provide any further insight on the new tenant, but development manager for Westpoint, Jonathan Carlile, confirmed it would be a kebab shop.
Subject to approval from Bathurst Regional Council, the shop is expected to be open by early September.
"We have a kebab shop planned for shop number five, which of course is all subject to approval to get the works done, but we're happy to have it up and running by September 1. It's very exciting, we're finally getting another opportunity in there," Mr Carlile said.
Westpoint underwent a $11.5 million redevelopment in recent years, which saw the footprint of the shopping centre expand from 1700 square metres to 4700 square metres.
The car park was also upgraded and now has 160 spaces.
The works were completed around the same time the pandemic started, which has made it tough finding new tenants.
However, Mr Carlile is confident that the situation will improve.
The kebab shop is a great step forward, as it was hoped Westpoint would offer more food and drink retailers after the redevelopment.
"One of our primary objectives in doing the redevelopment was to increase the variety of food offers there. We still think there's room for a good deal more, including charcoal chicken, a burger joint, maybe fish and chips, certainly a noodle bar, an Asian offer," Mr Carlile said.
"We'd love to see some more opportunities there and we've had a few inquires over the last few weeks along those lines, but really nothing locked down at this point in time."
He encouraged anyone considering opening a new business to get in touch, as the landlords are open to hearing all proposals for Westpoint.
