The Western NSW Local Health District gave a shout out to staff at the Bathurst Base Hospital's Fever Clinic, which tested over 400 people in just one day last week.
By comparison this time last year the fever clinic was testing 436 people in a week, compared to an average of 280 people a week in June 2020.
Acknowledging the 400 tests in one day, the Health District thanked not only the community for coming forward and being tested but also their staff, which it said "do an amazing job."
It's been a trying few days for NSW, as the State continues to face it's biggest COVID-19 crisis yet, with NSW recording 112 new cases on Monday.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
At a press conference on Monday morning Premier Gladys Berejiklian said it was vital people continued to come forward and be tested for the virus.
On Sunday 48,000 people across NSW were tested for the virus, with the Premier saying testing numbers were holding high, adding they "desperately needed" people to continue coming forward to be tested "to make sure we capture all cases of community transmission out there."
With even higher COVID-19 figures expected Tuesday, NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said this could be "a win", if it means higher testing has occurred.
"If I can find all the cases out there today through really, really high testing, that is actually a win because what I want do is find every single person who currently has COVID or is at risk of COVID," Dr Chant said.
NSW Health thanked the community for coming forward for testing saying "high testing numbers are vital in detecting cases of COVID-19 in order to prevent further transmission, and to keep our friends and families safe."
"We continue to urge anyone with even the mildest of symptoms to be tested immediately and isolate until a negative result is received. If symptoms appear again, be tested and isolate again."
There are more than 380 COVID-19 testing locations across NSW, including three in Bathurst, which operate seven days a week.
The Fever Clinic operates from the Bathurst Base Hospital, from 9am until 3pm, no appointments are necessary.
