Zali Rogers, who moved back to Bathurst recently after several years in Sydney, has been a professional Middle Eastern dancer for over 20 years.
Ms Rogers said the upcoming workshops, to be held free of charge at Bathurst PCYC, are designed to give participants an introduction to belly dancing: an art form dating back to ancient times.
"The workshops will involve basic movements to music, and I'm hoping to provide a bit of a background about how belly dancing came to be," she said.
"If they're well attended, I hope to start offering regular classes."
Ms Rogers said Middle Eastern dance is unique in the sense it's a dance of interpretation and expression rather than steps.
"More traditional dance forms [ballroom, ballet etc.] are generally about steps and choreography, whereas Middle Eastern dance is a pure expression of the music being played," she said.
The workshops will run at Bathurst PCYC from 5.30pm to 7pm on Thursday, July 15 and 22. For more information, contact Ms Rogers on 0418491204 or visit her Instagram page.
