MacKillop College principal Steve Muller said the move to the "new normal" has been been easy for the more than 670 students and 70 staff.
"It was a big change for everyone coming in this morning but we had 100 per cent coverage. Everyone had their masks on, so it's working really well," he said.
"Non-essential visitors won't be able to come into school until further notice and parents will have to maintain physical distancing when they're dropping students off.
"We've put out a letter to parents to tell them to avoid travelling to and from Sydney where possible, just so we can keep our community safe."
Students have been advised to not attend school if feeling unwell, even with mild symptoms of COVID-19.
Excursions have been limited to outdoor locations within the Bathurst local government area, with camps, field trips, overnight stays, visits to aged care facilities and community events within school hours not permitted.
"I think we got use to these things last year and we had a quick meeting with students this morning, bringing them up to speed," Mr Muller said.
"It's been a pretty good."
