Bathurst Regional Council has been in crisis over the last fortnight after bombshell allegations were levelled at former mayor Bobby Bourke by fellow councillor Jacqui Rudge.
It came on the heels of tension between Bathurst's nine councillors, who were divided on the go-kart track project.
But acting mayor Ian North and councillors Alex Christian and Monica Morse said they want to move on and see the council work together in the remaining weeks of the term.
"Everybody says that we don't work together, that they were on one side of the go-kart track and I was on the other ... but we've moved on, absolutely moved on," Cr Morse said.
"We have to be working together and finishing off this council in a very cooperative, respectful way."
Cr Christian added: "The go-kart track stuff is behind us. We're moving forward together."
Cr Morse said councillors can disagree in the council chamber, but they should be able to "have a cup of tea together" once they leave the room.
Councillors North, Christian and Morse all recently celebrated their birthdays, being born on July 4, 9 and 12 respectively.
Cr Morse has invited all councillors and council directors to join them in celebrating the birthdays with champagne after Wednesday's mayoral election and council working parties.
It is hoped it will be a step forward after recent controversies.
"I think actually this has been a wake-up call, because the day after that program I think all of us who were talking to each other were sad," Cr Morse said.
"We just thought it was such a shame and it was a wake-up call to say that we've got eight weeks left to work together."
Cr North said that, councillors still have a lot to be proud of, even if they didn't always agree.
"One issue doesn't define everything. In four years, we've done a lot," he said.
Wednesday's mayoral election will be held at 4pm and will be livestreamed on council's YouTube channel.
