IT was speed and effort which helped earn Hamish Alexander a chance in the Bathurst Bushrangers tier one senior men's team and now those qualities mean he is likely to stay there.

Alexander only graduated from the AFL Central West junior ranks this season, but the young gun has impressed Bathurst Bushrangers tier one coach Matt Archer.
Though conceding experience to almost all of his rivals, his rapid improvement and commitment have more than made up for it.
"He's an 18 year-old and he's probably only played four games in first grade, but all of a sudden, I don't know what's happened, he's just been outstanding," Archer said.
"He definitely looked good in ressies and got a gig in first grade because a few were out and I tell you what, I don't think he drops back to reserve grade any time soon, he's just been outstanding."
Alexander, who has previously represented his state in school volleyball, made his top flight debut against the Dubbo Demons in May and gone on to face Orange Tigers twice and play in a derby against the Bathurst Giants.
His best football has come over the past fortnight, inspiring his team-mates.
"He's been playing on the wing and he's been a big difference, he's breathed a bit of life into us with a bit of speed and effort," Archer said.
"He turns three-on-ones disadvantages our way just because of his pressure and effort."
Alexander will get another chance to impress this Saturday when the Bushrangers host the Dubbo Demons.
