Starting in five races since at Orange, Goulburn, Bathurst (twice) and Cowra, the Bathurst-trained gelding's best finish was seventh.
But after Tuesday's meeting for Bathurst was transferred to Cowra due to wet conditions, Red Marauder rode his luck, the $21-backed outsider storming home to win the Australian Hotel Cowra Benchmark 58 Handicap (1100 metres).
The start proved the difference for Red Marauder, the six-year-old getting out the barriers well to be second at the start, with fellow Bathurst-trained Mont Genep the early pacesetter.
But Red Marauder would battle on and keep the pressure on the leader and in the run for home, jockey Jake Pracey-Holmes kicked the gelding into another gear, charging home to finish almost two metres ahead of Denim Street ($8) and Deponent ($14), trained by Bathurst-based Gayna Williams, in second and third respectively.
The win was Red Marauder's eighth career win from 46 starts and second win in five starts at the Cowra.
Of the Theobald-trained gelding's eight wins, Cowra is now his joint best track, having won two races at Gosford and Bathurst, with the other two wins coming at Wellington and Bedgerabong, west of Forbes.
Earlier pacesetter Mont Genep fell away to finish fifth, the Dean Mirfin chance one of the joint-best placing of any of his five chances at the Cowra meeting.
Race favourite Liberty Fields ($2.70), trained by Gary Portelli, rarely threatened the lead and ultimately finished in sixth.
In other races, Wanda Ings picked up two places with Puja and Noble Banner both running third in the Jamiesons Joinery F&M Maiden Handicap (1100 metres) and Cowra Breakout River Meats Maiden Plate (1375 metres).
