ORC's run towards a Bathurst Orange Inter District Cricket return couldn't be looking much brighter in the month's leading up to the competition, bringing back the team that won the Bathurst District Cricket Association second grade title plus a couple of extra players.
The Tigers will enter the 2021-22 BOIDC season as the new team on the block, slotting in to the void left by the departing Kinross side, and have snared a couple of valuable recruits.
Hamish Siegert returns to his former club and has brought along St Pat's Old Boys teammates Ben Cant and Hugh Parsons, while Centennials Bulls' Ethan Muller adds to the Tigers additions.
Wayne Sellers comes back to ORC from City Colts to captain the squad, and brings along brother Dave plus Angus Daymond from Colts.
Another former ORC man, Tim McKinnon, returns from a stint with Rugby Union and the 2020-21 premiership-winning BDCA captain Trent Fitzpatrick adds valuable experience along with Ricky Webb.
Sellers is excited to lead the team into a new era.
"We've still got our juniors that have hung around for the last couple of years," he said.
"It's good to also have a couple of old fellas who used to be juniors here.
"The big problem is that it's impossible to get together and do much at the moment, given the way the world is."
Youth seems to be the name of the game for the Tigers this season.
The former Saints trio of Siegert, Cant, Parsons plus Centennials Bulls recruit Muller add to other young stars on the ORC squad such as Fletcher Norris, Justin Stephenson, Jacob Ryan and Tait Borgstahl.
Parsons, Muller and Daymond add great options to what's already an imposing bowling attack for the Tigers, led by Borgstahl, Ryan and Stephenson.
That trio did a lot of damage for the Tigers in 2020-21, all finishing inside the top 10 wicket-takers list for the BDCA second grade competition.
"I think we're definitely going to be competitive," Sellers said.
"Bowling is definitely going to be a strength for us this season, especially with the guys from last season coming back.
"Hopefully Dave and I can add a bit with the bat."
Both Sellers brothers came across to City Colts when ORC were unable to field a team in the new BOIDC competition back in 2019-20 but are thrilled to be back with their old club.
"It feels like a brand new start. I'm really excited," he said.
"I'm really keen to get stuck in. We did manage to get probably half of a training session in - and it was starting to feel a bit more real at that point - but that's when everything got cut off."
ORC took out last season's Bathurst District Cricket Association grand final with an outright nine-wicket victory over St Pat's Old Boys Blue.
The final was dominated by the bowlers, with Ryan claiming figures of 4-19 in the Saints' second innings while Pat's bowler Brendan Edwards claimed 7-51.
Borgstahl was another standout on the day with three wicket in each inning.
