September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day and Lifeline Central West will be using the day as an opportunity to raise awareness about mental health.
The organisation has partnered with local coffee shops across the region, which will use special takeaway cup lids with a message of hope.
"It's an awareness campaign to perhaps start the conversation and we just came up with the idea about the coffee cup lids, that it would give people an opportunity to start a conversation around suicide," Lifeline Central West CEO Stephanie Robinson said.
"It might be about somebody asking after somebody or checking in. If they know somebody who has lost someone to suicide, it might be that touching base because we know that so often when people are lost to suicide, because people are so uncomfortable talking about it, their loved ones feel quite isolated and alone.
"For me, [Suicide Prevention Day] is that real reminder to touch base and, for most people, they really like that somebody remembers and cares about their loved one and is open to having that conversation."
