Andrew Russell was last seen alive leaving a home on Slim Street, Bathurst, about 8pm on Tuesday, June 2, 2009.
Since his disappearance, NSW Police have issued a $750,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of his remains.
The family, with the help of a private investigator, are also undertaking their own investigations.
They launched the "Help find Andrew" Facebook page, and with the help of community tip-offs and investigations done by their private investigator George Maloukis, they now want to undertake excavation work at a specific location to try to locate Andrew's remains.
Andrew's sister Kiara White said the family were "blown away" by the support they have received.
"I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated, shared a (Facebook) post or sent their thoughts, love and prayers," she said.
"We are at $1510 so far, which is beyond amazing. We are over half way to raising the $2500 (required)."
