Ms Jones, is one of just 26 teachers across NSW to receive the honour this year.

In what is an outstanding result for public education in Bathurst, among the other recipients are two teachers at Bathurst High; Veronica Manock and Matthew Baillie, who will feature in a later edition.

Principal of Kelso High, Mick Sloan, said the award recognises Ms Jones' knowledge, professionalism and leadership across the entire school community.

He said her high expectations drive best practice within and beyond the school gates, ensuring that the positive impact her work has on student outcomes spreads far beyond her classroom walls.

Mr Sloan said when it comes to teaching it was difficult to isolate her best attributes, as "she has so many" but said if he had to select one it would be the relationships she has with her students.

"That's where it all starts.

"She also has an incredible array of strategies, she continually learns and continually challenges herself to improve, she wants the best for the kids," he said.

As an HSIE teacher, Ms Jones teaches a range of subjects including legal studies, business commerce and geography.

"Her speciality is legal studies but being such a good teacher I actually think she could teach anything," Mr Sloan said.

Ms Jones said she was pumped when she heard about the award.

"I think it's great for public education and great for the town."

She said she felt incredibly grateful to be recognised.

"I think it's such a good thing for Denison College to have teachers being acknowledged state-wide because we do have really strong educators in the region."

Ms Jones began teaching in 2013, having previously worked as a NSW police officer. She was drawn to teaching after developing an appreciation for the impact a positive education can have on adolescents, and the positive impact it has on the future trajectory of their lives.

"I wanted to be part of that," she said.

When asked what she loves most about teaching her answer is simple.

"The kids. I love spending time with them; they are amazing, cool, complex and challenging."
