In such difficult times for the Bathurst community, it could be forgiven that people would ideally choose to put their own wellbeing first.

But as was proven for an elderly couple living in Kelso last week, younger members of the community are still willing to partake in random acts of kindness.
Last Friday afternoon, Ilumba Gardens residents Daphne and Herb Healey were greeted with a welcome 'care package' in their letterbox, including chocolates, tea and a handwritten note from 'Gabby'.
"We were absolutely blown away," Mrs Healey said.
"It turned out we were the only ones in our street to receive such a package; it put a smile on our faces and a tear in our eyes."
The note read: "Hi neighbour, we live in your street, we hope you're healthy and safe, just giving you a little something to put a smile on your face."
"We don't know who 'Gabby' is, but what a lovely thing for a child to do," Mrs Healey said.
"It just goes to show there are children out there who, even in difficult times like these, are still willing to reach out to the elderly to ensure they're okay."
"We're mindful there's likely many parents out there who are encouraging their children to think beyond themselves and in times like these, it's certainly appreciated."
The COVID-19 pandemic has created plenty of complications for the Bathurst community, with the elderly population most at risk of developing serious complications from the virus.
But as a result of the lockdown, elderly members of the community have often felt the most isolated due to not only a lack of visitors, but greater challenges in using the technology required [i.e. QR codes] to sign in at venues, as well as disruption to daily routines.
Mrs Healey said while she and Herb have experienced these challenges, they've been doing okay overall.
"We're thankful to have family based in town, but understand not all elderly residents have the same family networks we do," she said.
