While the last few days have been around five to eight degrees above average for the middle of September, those temperatures are set to significantly drop.
A cold snap is predicted to hit from Monday, with the temperature dropping around 10 degrees from the day before.
"We'll see temperatures significantly lower across the region, struggling to reach double digits for part of the Central Tablelands including Orange," meteorologist Graeme Brittain said.
The temperature is predicted to remain below average until Friday, when it will warm up again before cooling off over the weekend with rain and showers expected.
Mr Brittain said the fluctuating temperature patterns are not uncommon for spring in this region.
