For the month of September, Bathurst Community Transport is offering free trips to and from COVID vaccination appointments for locals as part of an initiative by NSW Transport.
"We're very happy to do that because it's a great way to help our community," Bathurst Community Transport CEO Kath Parnell said.
Free transport is available to anyone living in the Bathurst local government area, but services are only running during business hours Monday to Friday.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The Bathurst Community Transport vehicles will take people to any of the local doctor surgeries, vaccination clinics and pharmacies, and then return them home after they've received their jab.
Ms Parnell said bookings are open to everyone, not just existing clients.
However, as the business is a pre-booking service, booking ahead of time is essential.
"The more notice people can give us for their booking, the better, and [we're] happy to help," she said.
"In our cars we're just transporting one person or one household at a time and in our buses we're only filling them to 50 per cent capacity.
"We do have a wheelchair vehicle, so if people are in wheelchairs we can help them with that."
The company has a very strict cleaning procedure: all vehicles are cleaned morning and night, and between clients.
Each vehicle has QR codes available and masks are compulsory.
In addition to these trips, the local transport company has also been able to continue taking its clients to any essential services that are required.
This includes transport to get groceries, to attend doctor appointments and, of course, trips to Orange for clients needing radiation as Bathurst doesn't offer radiation services.
Ms Parnell said anyone interested in registering with Bathurst Community Transport can do so by giving them a call on 6331 3322.
