Following an outbreak of COVID-19 amongst inmates and positive cases among staff, it's been a tough few weeks for the jail, but Acting Governor Brett Lees said staff have stepped up to ensure the safety of the community and inmates.
As a show of appreciation, Dominos delivered pizza and soft drink for the staff.
Dominos Operations Manager, Thomas Dibley said knowing things have been tough, he sent the pizzas up to the staff hoping to brighten their day.
"I know a few of them personally, I thought it would be nice to give them a helping hand," he said.
Acting Governor Brett Lees said the staff appreciated it.
MAKING NEWS:
"Obviously at the moment a lot of staff have been isolating in line with the Public Health Orders and the staff who have been here have really been going above and beyond to make sure the inmates are safe and looked after," he said.
He said corrections officer Ben Downey helped organise the pizza delivery and the staff were pretty chuffed when it arrived.
Mr Lees said staff at the jail have been working in a state-wide situation no one has ever really seen before, and were doing an incredible job.
"They are literally doing the job of two people. The staff couldn't do any more. It's made me proud to see the way they have gotten the work done.
"They have come together and helped each other."
Mr Lees paid credit to all at the jail who were working so hard to keep the inmates and larger community safe.
"It's not just the officers, there are a wide range of people who have gone above and beyond. I'd like to give a shout out to my admin staff as well the guys who work in the stores and the Covid officers. Everyone has really come together."
Mr Lees said it also meant a lot to staff that Dominos supported them.
He said given staff work behind the huge closed-in walls of the jail a lot of people don't really know what goes on in a typical day at the jail.
"My staff, they do the job of corrective officers they also do the job of paramedics of fire fighters... they are incredible."
