In my opinion, if ever a city could win the equivalent of Lotto, then Bathurst is in this category regarding the proposed new private hospital and multi-level parking building.
The hospital is needed, and will benefit our existing and wonderful public hospital, in taking up some of the weight of patients.
Other benefits are the consultants and skills which will come with it, and the personnel and public use of its facilities will generate so much income in the CBD.

The extra car parking will be gained by the public at a far less cost to the ratepayers than if it was a do-alone project by the council.
In terms of its effect in regard to heritage in the area, there is little of that to clash with.
The buildings in the vicinity and in Howick and George streets area include the old Clancy site itself, the RSL Club, the post office building, two major shopping centres, the tyre business, Dan Murphy's, the Advocate building, the council chambers, and BMEC - all of modern type architecture.
In terms of the opinion that it should be built out in the sticks, anyone who has had to visit Orange Hospital, built away from the Orange CBD, will have experienced the woeful car parking and the fact the only place for some refreshment is one café on the premises. with a car trip into town necessary for a meal.
