In the 24 hours to 8pm Wednesday, Bathurst recorded one new case of COVID-19, breaking the community's record four-day streak without a Delta variant infection.
The case is believed to have been infectious in the community.
WNSWLHD chief executive officer Scott McLachlan said the positive case was not a resident of Bathurst, and had been in town for work reasons.
"The positive case was in town for quite a few days, and was infectious in the community for that time," Mr McLachlan said.
"This is a real risk for Bathurst, so I strongly urge the community to look out for those venues of concern, and our contact tracers will be contacting people who have been in those venues."
Mr McLachlan said Bathurst venues of concern will be released to the public in due course if close and casual contacts prove difficult to contact.
According to the NSW government website, going to work if you can't reasonably work from home and if the business is allowed to open is listed as a reasonable excuse for leaving home.
However, in local government areas where the stay-at-home rules apply, employers must allow an employee to work from home if the employee is reasonably able to do so, or risk fines up to $2000 for individuals, and up to $10,000 for corporations.
With a steady drop in testing numbers [189 on Wednesday from 263 on Monday], Mr McLachlan has urged the community to get tested and take advantage of surveillance testing [no symptoms, no need to isolate] in place.
"Please come forward and get tested, it's one of the most crucial things we can do in the coming days," he said.
"A positive case infectious in the community means there is an ongoing risk for everyone, so extra vigilance is a must."
