In a second piece of bad news for the city, the new case is being reported as being infectious in the community.

Up until the latest update this morning, Bathurst had gone four days in a row without a new COVID case - the city's best run since the Delta outbreak came to the city.

The disappointing news for Bathurst comes as Orange gets the good news that it will be coming out of lockdown at midnight tonight.

As well, a drive-through testing site is continuing to operate at Oberon after virus fragments were found in a sewage sample in the town earlier this week.

The Western NSW Local Health District had 11 new cases overall to 8pm on Wednesday, which followed nine new cases in the 24 hours beforehand.

Member for Bathurst Paul Toole reported that Bathurst had 189 daily tests on Wednesday, which was a continuation of the recent drop in tests.

Mr Toole is reporting Bathurst's active case total is now 16, with 39 cases recovered.

Across NSW, the state had 1063 new locally acquired COVID cases to 8pm on Wednesday, about on par with the previous 24 hours, and there are now 233 cases in intensive care and 112 requiring ventilators.

There were six deaths in the 24-hour reporting period: three people from western Sydney, two from south western Sydney and one from Dubbo.

The NSW Government says the state is now up to 55.5 per cent double doses and 83.6 per cent first dose.
