The $6.2 million project will see the construction of two brand new fields between the St Patrick's rugby league complex and the Bathurst Bulldogs rugby union complex.
The upgrade will take the number of fields to six, enabling the precinct to host larger carnivals and events, with the fields will to be used for training by the clubs and school groups for general competition, events and carnivals.
Bathurst Regional Council's director of engineering services, Darren Sturgiss, said work has not been impacted by COVID-19 regulations.

"The project is a little behind schedule due to ongoing wet weather and removing building waste," he said.
"Completed works include removal of existing grass and topsoil, bulk earthworks, irrigation, electrical and lighting design, and the removal of building waste material."
There are still plenty of outstanding works to be carried out, but Mr Sturgiss confident it will be done in December.
"The outstanding works include the construction and installation of field soil profile, irrigation installation, storm water drainage, lighting installation, concrete footpaths, and the installation of fencing and handrail," he explained.
"The project is scheduled to be completed in December."
"The contractor and all council staff have had to strictly comply with all NSW Health COVID-19 regulations but there has been no significant impact on the project to date."
On top of the construction of the new fields, a new amenities block will be constructed, as well as an 800-space carpark and roundabout to make it easier and safer to enter and exit the complex.
The amenities block and carpark projects are not expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Of the $6.2 million cost for the Hereford Street sporting complex's project, $2.6 million comes from a NSW Government Regional Sports Infrastructure Fund grant, with the additional $3.6 million being funded by Bathurst Regional Council.
