The aim is to make it easier for transport operators to receive regular tests so they can continue to deliver essential supplies across NSW.
Truck drivers transporting goods both across the state and interstate are required to have one and sometimes two COVID tests per week to ensure their own safety, the safety of the industry and the towns to which they travel.
Burke's Transport owner Graeme Burke, who knows how difficult it can be for truck drivers to receive such regular tests, said the initiative is a great idea.
"It's so convenient because at the present moment, most drivers have got to leave their trucks at the depots or park their truck somewhere, get in a car and go and have the test done, which is inconvenient and time-consuming," he said.
"With this, you can drive in, park your truck, jump out, come in, get the test done, it's great.
"Nearly all large industries that trucks go in and out of are insisting on at least weekly or sometimes twice-a-week test results."
The first freight-friendly site was opened over 12 months ago at Tarcutta, south-west of Gundagai, and sites have since been introduced all over NSW in areas convenient for truck drivers wanting to pull up.
With Bathurst being the gateway to the Central West, a large number of trucks travel through town on a daily basis.
The testing site will be available to these drivers at any time on any day.
"The new site ... will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will accommodate freight workers travelling along a major road freight corridor which sees around 1800 heavy vehicle movements per day," Bathurst MP and Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said.
"These testing sites have proven invaluable in helping the freight industry meet the challenges of the Delta strain."
The initiative has been well-received, with more than 100,000 tests taken since the first site opened.
In the past four months, there has been a 1679 per cent increase in tests taken at the freight-friendly sites.
Mr Burke hopes truck drivers passing through Bathurst make the most of the facility.
"I think it ticks all the boxes," he said.
"It's so convenient. The drivers can just pull in and it's a five- to 10-minute task."
