In September, Bathurst Regional Council knocked back an idea to temporarily ease water restrictions for a two-week period so residents could "spring clean" around their properties.

The change to the rules would have allowed residents to use pressure washers and cleans hard surfaces, but councillors feared that would cause confusion and affect compliance when the rules reverted back.

There was also concern about the potential impact on the Chifley Dam level.

Council's director of Engineering Services, though, did advise councillors that they could consider scaling back water restrictions from level three to level two until such time level three was deemed necessary again.

It appears councillors are now considering going down this path.

Councillor Warren Aubin, who proposed the temporary easing of restrictions, said he has spoken to mayor Ian North about altering restrictions and a working party could be called to discuss it.

Cr Aubin isn't chasing a move back to level two, but rather modifying the level three rules to allow washing of hard surfaces.

"I think what we're going to look at is just easing the restrictions on washing down hard surfaces and that sort of thing and letting people actually do it, still keep the odds and evens, but let them do what they want to do in the hours available," he said.

"... We're going to sit down and have a bit of a chat about it in a working party and see what we come up with."

He and Cr Alex Christian were the only ones to vote for the temporary easing of restrictions last month.

Other councillors might support a more permanent easing of restrictions, however Cr John Fry said that he wouldn't want to see that happen until early next year.

"I think we should wait and see, see what sort of summer we get. I'm happy with the restrictions as they are now, because we've got plenty of rain, the catchment is saturated, I don't think anyone is suffering at all, and I think we should review that in the summer," he said.
