The program offers gift cards that can only be spent at participating stores, including The Church Block Café at Eglinton which has recently come on board.
Owner Lisa Davis said it is a great initiative by the Bathurst Regional Council and hopes more businesses jump on board to accept the gift cards.
"We've had customers coming in asking if they can use their card here so we thought we better get on board with it," Ms Davis said.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
"It's such a great local initiative, so many businesses now are participating that you can use the card all over Bathurst.
"It's just a great gift to give to someone because they've got a lot of choice and it's encouraging shop local."
The Bathurst Buy Local program began in 2015 with $862,000 loaded onto the cards during this time and $157,837 yet to be spent by cardholders.
In the last 12 months 15 new businesses have joined the initiative, taking the total number of participating stores to over 140.
The program is open to all locally-owned businesses and is free to join.
"Personally I think it's a great thing to promote because everybody's worried about online ordering not getting here in time for Christmas, so keep it local," Ms Davis said.
"There's a really good cross-section of businesses too."
The gift cards can be purchased online or at certain businesses around town. The card works with any EFTPOS system and purchasers can choose how much they would like to put on it.
More information, including participating businesses, can be found on the Why Leave Town website.
