WHATSIN'S barnstorming performance in The Panorama has Bathurst trainer Dean Mirfin confident that she can be right in the mix during this Saturday's running of the $100,000 TAB Highway Handicap (1,600 metres) on Randwick's Spring Champion Stakes day.

After running third in the Bathurst feature event behind Kosciuszko-bound Spiranac, Whatsin enters this weekend's race with Hugh Bowman in the saddle, chasing her fourth career win.
She has to shoulder three extra kilos in this race but comes up against an easier field during Saturday's opening race.
Mirfin was forced into a change of plans with Whatsin due to a slight counting error but he has hopes her new path will still lead to a successful outcome.
"We were going to set her for the Country Championships but unfortunately we discovered she was ineligible because she was in her provisional stable for a couple of days too long.
"We panned that idea, put her into the Panorama and then set her for this race, which is now her main target.
"She found the right race here, and the right jockey. This is the distance she wants and she's got the right alley.
"Her run in the Panorama was enormous. She ran a big last 400m. Bucker [Grant Buckley], who rode her, came back with big wraps on her. I think it was because of that run that we were able to secure Hugh Bowman on her this Saturday.
"He's had a ride on her before and he likes her as well. They're hard to win, these highway races, but she's going up there with undeniable claims."
Mirfin also has Hamogany going around in this Saturday's event
He came home ninth in a Rosehill Highway Handicap race a fortnight ago, where he was luckless in the run for home, and prior to that was seventh at Dubbo.
"Both his runs this preparation have been really good actually. His first up run was enormous in a very short race," Mirfin said.
"Then the other day he featured prominently in the stewards report because he couldn't obtain clean running in the last 150 metres and the jockey sat up on him and let him idle to the line, and he still only got beaten by two and a half lengths. The run was super.
"It's a bit further again and he's a horse who wants at least 1,600m. He's drawn the ideal gate. You look on paper and see barrier 19 but that's great for him because he likes to have extra galloping room.

"He'll hit the line well hopefully on the outside and run a big race as well."
Whatsin is currently rated a strong $9 shot - third best in the market - and Hamogany sits at $41.
The two huge dangers for Whatsin look to be Daiki Chujo's Bahamut and Paul Messara's Freedom Square.
Bahamut flew home over the final 400m to win first up at Lismore in his latest start while the lightly raced Freedom Square fought on hard for third recently at Scone.
Bathurst trainer Gayna Williams originally had her in-form Bathurst Cup champion From The Bush nominated for the $130,000 Cerrone Handicap on the same day but has since scratched her runner.
From The Bush is now nominated for this Wednesday's meeting at Warwick Farm.
The Highway Handicap gets the day at Randwick underway at 12.35pm.
