To celebrate Cricket NSW's Biggest Game of Backyard Cricket promotion on Saturday, Weber Barbecues will have a host of prizes on offer for the most creative wicket-taking celebrations that occur during the event.
Two young Bathurst hopefuls who will look to make their own statement on the popular Australian past-time are siblings Amira and Ashwin Buttsworth, who regularly face off against each other in tight contests at the crease.
Amira, nine, prefers the bat to the ball, and said she enjoys playing regular games with her family.
"I like being able to play cricket with my whole family, and everyone gets a turn," she said.
"Batting is definitely what I enjoy the most, especially trying to pick the next delivery my brother is going to attempt."
And the process of picking the next delivery can often prove a challenge, as Ashwin, five, said he likes to incorporate pace and spin bowling into his repertoire.
"I try to keep to a good length and aim at the stumps, though I do like to change it up to keep my sister guessing," Ashwin said.
Both Amira and Ashwin are junior cricketers with ORC Cricket Club and are quickly transitioning back into cricket mode after sadly being unable to cheer their beloved South Sydney Rabbitohs to a premiership last weekend.
Archana Buttsworth, Amira and Ashwin's mother, said the regular backyard cricket games serve as great family time.
"It gets the kids out of the house to do some exercise, and we have the perfect yard for it," Ms Buttsworth said.
"Backyard cricket is a pretty regular family activity during summer, with games taking place either in the backyard or on the driveway, we're a big cricket family."
