Alternating stop and slow traffic control is now in place through the area.
Westbound and eastbound motorists can still consider using Darling Causeway, Chifley Road, Mort Street, Lithgow Street and Main Street via Bell and Lithgow as an alternative route.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution, allow extra travel time and follow the directions of emergency services and traffic controllers on site.

EARLIER: The Great Western Highway is closed in both directions at Mount Victoria this morning due to a fluid spill at Victoria Pass.
Eastbound traffic is being diverted at Lithgow via Chifley Road and Darling Causeway to return to the Great Western Highway.
Westbound traffic is diverting at Mount Victoria via Darling Causeway and Chifley Road to Lithgow.
Light vehicles can also use Browns Gap Road, Hartley Vale Road and Darling Causeway.
Emergency services and traffic crews are on site.
Motorists are advised to allow plenty of extra travel time and follow directions of emergency services and traffic crews.
