EARLIER: Bathurst MP Paul Toole has called for calm within the community as COVID-19 cases continue to slowly rise across the region.
Bathurst recorded five new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm on Sunday out of six across the Western NSW Local Health District.
The sixth case was in Orange with health officials saying three of the western cases had been identified as household contacts of previous cases and two had been identified as otherwise linked to previous cases. One case remains under investigation.
There have been 19 new cases in Bathurst in the past five days, bringing the total active cases to 23. Three local businesses identified have been as venues of concern and two schools have temporarily closed due to COVID contacts.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
But Mr Toole said that far from being panicked by a handful of new cases each day, Bathurst residents should be focused on taking steps to ensure their safety.
"While we are starting to see case numbers on the rise in our community, it's important that we don't panic," Mr Toole said.
"I would urge residents to ensure they are double vaccinated and that they continue to follow the restrictions that are in place and come forward and get tested, even if they have the mildest flu-like symptoms.
"They should also realise the importance of using QR codes when checking in as this assists NSW Health and business owners identify possible cases through contact tracing."
"We were currently closed today and tomorrow morning due to no ice cream (hasn't happened in 10 years) so that was a big coincidence," the post read.
"Thanks everyone for supporting us and understanding we've been doing everything we can to follow the Health NSW guidelines to keep you all safe."
There was one patient admitted to hospital across the health district, while there is currently no one in ICU with COVID-19.
In some good news, there were six patients discharged from the COVID Care in the Community (CCiC) program.
Across NSW there were 294 fresh COVID cases recorded and four deaths in the most recent 24-hour period.
NSW Health confirmed the numbers, which closely match Sunday's update.
There were 59,612 tests conducted in the 24 hours to 8pm on Sunday.
