The Red V is synonymous with St George, who wore it on a white jersey from 1945 before it was adopted by the joint venture St George Illawarra Dragons from 1998.
Queensland Cup outfit Redcliffe Dolphins have worn a red jersey with a white chevron, themselves a storied club based in the coastal city outside of Brisbane since 1947.
Dragons great and board member Craig Young told NewsCorp that "only one team will wear the Red V and that's us", but Reader said they wouldn't be stepping on the Dragons' toes.
"The Dragons have nothing to worry about, there will be no V," he said on Wednesday.
The Dolphins controversially won't carry Redcliffe's name as the NRL's 17th club from 2023, but it didn't stop them honouring that past with the release of a heritage jersey this week.
New coach Wayne Bennett helped hang the jersey in the Suncorp Stadium home dressing room, which they will now share with the Brisbane Broncos as part of a new Queensland rugby league derby.
Inspired by the Redcliffe uniform worn in the 1980s, the red-and-white jersey also boasts touches of gold.
Reader confirmed the regular home and away jerseys would also feature gold as the club's third colour.
