In the space of a single BOIDC game and Bonnor Cup clash over the weekend Bathurst City has shown that the top half of their batting lineup is going to take some beating in 2021-22.
Joey Coughlan and Mark Day brought some of their best cricket to the crease as they each bagged 71 runs in Saturday's win over CYMS and young star Tom Lynch got off to a brilliant start with 46 runs.
Lynch could carve out a place as a strong number three option in the order, as the return of opener Ben Orme this season bumps him down to the first drop spot.
2) ORC WILL BE PUT THROUGH A TRIAL OF FIRE
While there's no true 'easy' introduction for a young team to a new level of competition ORC have copped one of the most horrifying selection of teams to start their campaign.
It could have the benefit of toughening up the Tigers side and allowing them to play their way into some better results around the mid point of the season.
After going down to St Pat's on Saturday they'll next face Orange City and Cavaliers.
3) RASMUSSEN NEEDS SOME SUPPORT
He was Centrals' leading run scorer in the 2020-21 BOIDC season and Cameron Rasmussen already looks to be the man to watch with the bat again following his 78 in Saturday's loss to Rugby Union.
But with the man who held the next-best batting average in last season's team, Fletcher Rose, making the switch to Orange City it leaves Centrals down a piece in the middle order.
If the team wants to mark themselves as a finals threat then the top order have to stay around and wear opposing bowling units down.
4) ORANGE CITY LOOK THE GOODS
Was there ever any doubt that the defending champions would come out firing?
Ed Morrish and Brett Causer have already shown that they deserve to be considered the deadliest all-round pairing across any BOIDC team following Saturday's win over Bulls, and new recruit Fletcher Rose adds to an already stacked batting order.
Be on the lookout for another big season from Blake Weymouth as well.
5) CAN COLTS PLAY TO STRENGTHS?
One day cricket should be the bread and butter of City Colts so they'll need to start taking advantage of this remaining three games of 40-over cricket before the mid-season break.
Granted, it was always going to be a tough start against a sublime Cavaliers side on Saturday but the Colts squad would have been disappointed to once again see one player trying to keep an inning stitched together.
