The Tigers, who were looking to bounce back from a rough BOIDC defeat to St Pat's Old Boys on Saturday, weren't far away from the Cavs in the Twenty20 clash at Wade Park.
Cavaliers made their way to 6-169 off their 20 overs, led by a knock of 68 from Cameron Laird, with Justin Stephenson (2-30) the best of the Tigers bowlers.
A pair of ORC's new recruits, Ethan Muller (49) and Ben Cant (41), tried their best to get the Tigers within striking distance but the visitors came up short at 5-153 from their full allotment of overs.
Cavaliers' Kyle Buckley claimed 2-33.
ORC captain David Sellers said despite the result it's a game that the Tigers will be able to take a lot out of.
"We'll actually take a bit of confidence out of it. We probably dropped four or five catches and bowled around 10 wides so a couple of basics ended up costing us a shot at the game," he said.
"We probably expected the result from Saturday. Pat's are the team to beat, but the conditions between the two games was quite different.
"The pitch on Saturday was a bit greener and Wade Park is always great to bat on."
Trent Fitzpatrick (28) and Sellers (17) also contributed well to the ORC chase, although the Cavaliers' ability to bowl to their field played a big part in their success.
"Being young this team doesn't have a weight of expectation on them and I don't think they have much fear in going for their shots," Sellers said.
"In saying that, they're all reasonably technical players so they're all quite smart in how they go about it. Bowling was our strength again. There were a couple of mistakes that probably cost us around 20 runs but 150-odd on Wade Park is a good score.
"We got off to a flier in our first four overs but then we got bogged down in the middle when we couldn't rotate strike. That's where Cavs won it. They put plenty of people in the circle and dried up the singles.
"Because of that pressure we ended up getting too far behind."
