It's taken only two rounds this time around for rain to show up and bring an end to a Bathurst Orange Inter District Cricket round before it had even began.
Officials made the call on Friday morning to cancel both the Bonnor Cup and BOIDC games planned for that evening and the following day.
The all-Bathurst clashes were shaping up to be some of the more intriguing games of the round.
Both the City Colts versus St Pat's Old Boys and the Centennials Bulls versus Bathurst City contests would have been pitting a round one winning and losing side against one another.
Rain has hindered the winning sides from building up quick momentum - something which will be more crucial than ever in a 2021-22 season that's already two weekends shorter than its usual length.
Colts, who on paper have the fire power to produce one-day results, were handily beaten by Cavaliers in their round one game, and they will now have to wait to try and build up that crucial momentum.
Colts captain Russ Gardner said the opening round result, despite what it may look like, wasn't all doom and gloom for the club.
"We certainly had a lot of positives in terms of the keenness and enthusiasm of the team. There's willingness there," he said.
"If you look at the batting card we were playing along to a plan, and we were going along pretty well. We just stumbled towards the end.
"At the 20 to 30 over mark we weren't too badly positioned. We had wickets in hand. We just need to execute better with the bat."
Gardner, the reigning BOIDC player of the tournament, played himself as the first drop batsmen for Colts in the opening round game - a spot he only found himself in twice during the 2020-21 season.
He's not sure whether that will remain a permanent fixture in the Colts batting card moving forward, but he knows a lot of teams will be looking to find the right fits over the opening rounds.
"We'll see how we go with the way things work out and with who's available. It'll also depend on how they're going with their form," he said.
"We're not the only team who will be waiting to see where batting numbers get settled and people feel more comfortable in certain positions. We certainly want to get down that path."
Colts will next take on CYMS while Bathurst City will be up against Pat's in a battle between two unbeaten squads.
Meanwhile, Bathurst City have missed out on their opportunity to try and reach win number two much quicker than they did last season.
It took the Redbacks six games to find that mark in 2020-21 and they would have been favourites to make that happen much sooner this Saturday.
Centennials would have been buoyed though by the way they've started the season, with Kurt Toole's 98 almost doing enough to get them an upset win over Orange City in round one.
