Twenty RAD-5 Pulse Oximeters valued at $30,810 have been donated to hospitals across the district.
The RAD-5 Pulse Oximeters will be used across the Western NSW Local Health District where infants and children with COVID-19 are being cared for outside the hospital setting.
Accurate measurement of a pulse rate, oxygen saturation and blood flow are essential in assessing the status and treatment implications for paediatric patients.
Handheld RAD-5 Pulse Oximeters record arterial oxygen levels accurately and efficiently and quickly track any changes.
This monitoring will allay family anxiety about a child's condition in the home setting and will allow Western NSW Local Health District's remote team to detect any changes in condition as early as possible and escalate care where required.
Dr Allan Kerrigan, WNSWLHD Paediatrician, welcomed the donation.
"WNSWLHD's outbreak of COVID-19 started in early August and, with its epicentre in Dubbo, it quickly spread through the District.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
"As case numbers grew, it was clear that a concerted response from many quarters was required," Dr Kerrigan said.
"Augmenting the intense investment, effort and coordination made by the WNSWLHD, partners from other government and non-government organisations offered support and joined the effort to keep children and their families safe."
"We needed additional saturation monitors to keep small children with COVID-19 at home, and we were grateful for the support the Humpty Dumpty Foundation and Interior Works was able to provide," he said.
