Roof leakage during rain events has been an ongoing problem at the venue for quite some time, with sporting fixtures often getting cancelled as a result.
But Bathurst Indoor Sports Stadium manager Andrew James said he's received word Bathurst Regional Council has put in a tender to get the roof looked at in January.
"After speaking to someone from council a couple of weeks ago, I believe Oakleigh Plumbing has been awarded the tender to upgrade the sky lighting, so it's simply a waiting game at the moment," Mr James said.
"But you talk to any builder at the moment, and they'll tell you they're still waiting on materials as a result of COVID-induced delivery delays or stock shortages."
While acknowledging and understanding the frustrations regarding the slow process towards fixing the roof, Mr James has implored regular visitors to be patient.
"Council has agreed to put $70,000 towards fixing the roof, but the stadium's community need to realise there's a process that must be followed to get these works up and running," he said.
"Like any council funding, there's a requirement to get businesses to apply for the tender, and having to shut during lockdown also pushed things back."
Mr James said he's hopeful the works in January will help get to the bottom of the persistent leaks.
"The problem is because it's such a big space, it's hard to know where the leaks are coming from, so the plan is to do these sun lights first and see if that fixes the issue," he said.
"Whenever it rains, we have a lot of soccer and netball groups ring us asking if they can hire a court, and it's quite embarrassing having to turn them away considering we're an indoor facility.
"Fingers crosses these works in January solve the problem and we can start welcoming people again; rain, hail or shine."
