After being unable to host fundraisers due to COVID, the non-for-profit organisation was eager to interact with the public and remind Bathurst that cancer doesn't stop for COVID.
"We had a fair few people coming through, the main aim was to remind everybody," CanAssist member Michele James said.
"We got out there so people remember we're there and we had our banner up."
The barbecue was in conjunction with Mitre 10's Adventure Kings camping range launch on November 20.
Store manager Cassie Bacon said they were more than happy to have CanAssist running the barbecue to get them out into the community.
Mitre 10 supplied everything that was needed, donated a raffle prize and donated $1000 to the cancer assistance organisation.
"I don't think there's one family that can say they haven't been touched by cancer in one way shape or form," Ms Bacon said.
"They haven't been allowed to fundraise and things like that so I suppose it's something that we were very much behind, being able to help someone out in a time of need.
"We appreciate the support of the Bathurst community, they really got behind it on the day so we're very appreciative of that."
Between donations from the public and the generosity of Mitre 10, CanAssist was able to raise over $1200 to put towards assisting local cancer patients.
Ms James was extremely grateful for everyone's support.
