The inaugural Central Tablelands Livestock Exchange (CTLX) Working Dog Challenge was deemed a success by regional development manager Brock Syphers who was happy with the numbers in attendance.
"It was really good, Friday was really busy," Mr Syphers said.
"We had what's called the sire shootout on Friday night under lights, so that was roughly 15 of the best yard working dogs in the country from the top sires entering their number one dog and that was really well received and a good night."
After a $20,000 purse was shared between the trial winners, the event culminated on Sunday with around 50 dogs being auctioned off.
Mr Syphers said he believes the highest price a working kelpie has sold for is $32,500, and he hoped to break this record by the end of the auction.
"There's 120 people registered to bid for this sale online and then there's probably 300 people here now," he said.
"It's a pretty good crowd."
In addition to the trials and sale, a kelpie pup donated by Koonama Working Kelpies was auctioned off as a 'charity pup', raising $7500 for mental health organisation This is a Conversation Starter (TIACS).
Mr Syphers believes the auction will help meet the growing demand for working dogs and he hopes the three-day show becomes a legacy event.
